When I asked Skye if he was doing anything over ILHC weekend, he said he was hoping to, but didn’t have anything prepared. This was last Thursday. Classic division was on Friday, which was the same night that Frida was flying in.
AIR pt. 16: Not Really The End
So the last part of this paper got posted about a year and a half ago. The whole thing has actually been done for almost four years now, but in posting it here on this blog, the plan was for me to revise it as I went along because I actually don't agree with some of the original conclusions. However, as time goes on, it is becoming apparent that I'm just not going to have the time to do a full scale revision. I'm also not close to finishing any other posts anytime soon, so in the interest of completion and just to post something this is the thrilling finale of Artistry in Rhythm. Astute readers will note that some elements from the previous parts are included here because I was taking the paper apart and reassembling it as part of the revisions. I kept some of those things in this post since it just makes the whole thing easier to read. And let's face it, it's been a year and a half, you probably don't remember those parts anyway. However, I will admit that I have cannibalized quite a bit of this paper for other posts so the likelihood of deja vu is very high.
The State of the Lindy Online Disunion
Dear Jerry,

DCLX 2011: Encore! Encore! Encore!
I also took a number of videos this weekend. I’m posting three of them here with a little back ground. These videos are of the last band of the weekend, The Boilermaker Jazz Band. Despite the heavy hitter line up that preceeded them, including bands led by Glenn Crytzer, Jonathan Stout, Gordon Webster, Craig Gildner, and Stacy Brooks; the Boilermakers were still able to rally the near exhausted DCLX-ites to such a frenzy that they held them hostage onstage for THREE encores. You would think batting clean up behind one of the most exciting musical nights in modern Lindy Hop history would be tough, but BMJB hit one out of the park.
All God’s Chillun Got Rhythm
I posted a couple of links today on the Facebook page for this blog that led me to the idea of posting the full scene from "A Day At The Races" featuring Whitey's Lindy Hoppers. But since I had some thoughts lengthier than 420 characters, I just thought I'd turn it into a full blog post.
The Episode Where the Koreans Bring It
I was going to post this right quick on the Facebook Page for Wandering & Pondering, but then I realized that I had more to say than a quick blurb.
Behind The Dance: Frida & Skye at ALHC 2005
John White over at Black Belt Lindy just posted the second part of an analysis of Frida Segerdahl & Skye Humphries’ 1st place performance from the Classic Division of the 2005 American Lindy Hop Championships. This reminded me of a comment I tried posting to another blog talking about the same clip, but for some reason never got through. (I just checked and the whole blog is gone now) I thought I’d dust it off, shine it up real nice, and post it if only because it still kinda amazes me how much people obsess over this particular performance. I mean, it’s good, but it really wasn’t meant to be much of anything.
Rhythm Method
I thought I'd keep with the drumming theme from last week and spotlight my favorite swing drummers of today.
Random DCenes: Just Beat It

You won’t find Malcolm X Park on any map of DC. Only long time locals call Meridian Hill Park that. And it’s on Sundays where you’ll find the legendary drum circle.
Pondering
There’s a meme going around citing that a good reason to dump Facebook is because you spend more time reading about the inanities of your friends' lives as opposed to classic literature like War and Peace. I have no intention of reading War and Peace any time soon. Never thought about it before I got a Facebook account, and my current disposition doesn’t bode well for it happening in the near future. To be honest, my ability to get through a book has diminished greatly with age. There used to be a time where I could polish off a 500 page novel in a week or two. Not so much anymore. I can’t get past a paragraph before I stare off into space considering it, dozing off for a few minutes, and then re-reading the same passage trying to figure out where I left off. In light of that, 420 character updates suit me just fine.
